Spring Flower (Chapter 2: First Encounter)

Chapter 2: First Encounter
Haruka was surrounded by a light shower of cherry blossom. She stood a few feet from the gigantic pink petal tree. One of the petals from the shower brushed lightly against her face. It felt warm, like a gentle mother's touch. She suddenly felt another sensation; a chill crawled on her back. She was no longer in a completely blank land but a gorgeous winter wonderland. White powdery snow crushed against her boots as she took little steps towards the still blooming tree. Despite the frosty weather, the cherry blossoms somehow shielded her like a blanket.

"Haruka! Wake up! We're here!" Harold shook her shoulder gently. The tree vanished right before her eyes. The next thing she knew was opening her eyes in front of her father.
"Wh...what?" Haruka yawned.
"We're here in Vancouver!" Harold smiled.
Haruka's Beats headphones rested safely around her neck. She then remembered sulking throughout the flight, hoping that the plane would turn around back to Tokyo where her heart belonged to. She lumbered after her family off the aircraft.

"Wow! It's so big!" Nozomi squealed. The twins raced each other down the hallways like cheetahs; Natsumi caught them up just before the escalator down to the immigration counters.
"Honey! You have our passports ready, right?" Natusmi called out to her husband who ran towards them with his overloaded-looking backpack.
"Yup! Right here!" he replied, clutching four Japanese passports and his own British passport. Haruka trudged towards them, her lips formed a thin line. She spotted a blonde girl close to her age who stood a few feet away. She was wearing a wool sweater with a red and white Canadian flag on it. The colours were the same as the ones on the Japan flag.

                                               *                     *                     *
"Otooto! Hisashiburi!" Natusmi cried happily. She threw her arms round her younger brother Junya who was seen from the side of a shiny black Toyota. Uncle Junya gave her a hug before doing so to his three little nieces. Haruka forced a smile when Uncle Junya hugged her. He also gave a welcoming pat on Harold's back. "Man! It's been two years but you girls have grown so much!" Uncle Junya chuckled.

Uncle Junya excitedly explain more about his new business to the family. Haruka didn't listen to a word he said because she had her headphones on. Like any other introverts, she allowed the therapy of music to take over her melancholy. As the song "Still You" by K-Pop sub-unit Super Junior D&E was playing, Haruka watched as the car passed by big public buses with wires trailing above, shops and restaurants sandwiched to each other in tight lines, bald leafless trees near two-story houses with garages, and bilingual signs overtook most of the land. English words could be seen anywhere, but there were also Chinese, French, Spanish, Farsi, Korean and Japanese accompanying the mother language. Haruka wondered if people would get mixed up with all these different languages.

"Ah! Toochaku shimashita! We're here!" Uncle Junya said. The car slowed down at a newly-built house with yellow walls, sparkling translucent windows, and a dark red roof. He parked his car one foot near the curb and killed the engine with just an almost-anticlockwise turn of his keys at the ignition. Haruka watched from the back seat as the three adults carried the luggage from the trunk. Her dark brown eyes scanned around the peaceful-looking street. Everything looked new; the style of the houses looked almost similar. Instead of narrow roads with speeding motorcycles and crude Japanese phrases from annoyed passers-by, the sidewalks were overtaken by trotting dogs on leashes and friendly-looking pedestrians.

Megumi and Nozomi sprinted out of the car and through the rosewood door. Haruka lumbered after them. The first thing she saw when she stepped into her new home was the twins' hanging jaws.
"Wooooowwwwwww!" they exclaimed.
A wide-spaced living room with cooling light green walls welcomed them, followed by a golden ray of lamp light peeked through the door of a room nearby. Megumi pushed the door open and gasped, "Whoa! It's way bigger than the kitchen back home!"
Dark brown wood replaced white tiles that was hard for Natsumi to clean at times back in Tokyo. A table set for eight people was in the middle, accompanied by a vase of fake roses and a little chandelier dangling from the ceiling. A fancy stove combined with an oven at the bottom and a ventilation system on top was located on the left, sandwiched by dark wooden cupboards.

"What do you mean back home? This is our home right now!" Natsumi smiled.
"Yeah, for now..." Haruka mumbled.

"Haruka! Your room is here in the basement! Follow me!" her father said. Even though music was still blasting through her headphones, she could read her father's excited lips. She walked to a corner where a big bedroom was located. Harold watched as Haruka looked at her new Sakura pink bed, her new white study table, her very first closet which was more like a narrow room with a metal shelf guarded by two sliding doors, her new side table, and her very first shelving unit with pink boxes fitted in the bottom four square holes. "Nice, huh?" Harold said, "Oh! And your suitcases are in the closet...so go ahead and unpack your things and later we'll go out for dinner, okay?"

Haruka said nothing but sat on her bed. Everyone was excited but not her. She wished she could just buy a ticket to fly back to Tokyo.

Haruka tiptoed to the door and put on her purple Converse. She quickly glanced at the black and white clock that was hung on a wall.
"5pm...guess I still have time." she said to herself. As she went outside, the sky was a dull black with slightly visible grey clouds. The frosty wind that roared towards her direction hit against her pale skin. She was surprised to see how quick the sky darkened during winter in British Columbia. In fact, it was a little too dark. The street lights were lit up, but Haruka was a little scared to go further away from her new house all alone that time.

In fact, the street was a little too quiet for Haruka. Her mind flashed back to the lively streets of Tokyo where night markets lit up the night atmosphere with hearty food and wide smiles.

Suddenly, she spotted a soft pink flower petal floating in the air. She squinted and recognized the petal immediately. "A Sakura petal? It's not even spring yet!" she gasped. The winter breeze carried the petal away from Haruka's sight, but she immediately chased after it. She ran and ran while keeping her eyes locked on the petal. As she made her way to a nearby park, the petal brushed against a wall of vines and wild leaves. Haruka stopped and stared at the petal which was stuck between two snow-covered vines.
"Poor little petal!" Haruka said. She gently plucked it away from the vines. Suddenly, she could feel the earth shaking but it only lasted for five seconds. Haruka crouched on the ground with her eyes sealed shut, but opened her eyes when the earthquake stopped. To her surprise, the wall of vines and leaves disappeared! Instead, she gazed at a small entrance that led to an enormous cherry blossom tree. It was in full bloom. The tree was surrounded by a ring of leafless trees due to the cold season, bu the Sakura tree was the only flora that was still alive with beauty.

Haruka took a few steps forward. Her eyes stayed glued to the tree. The opening behind her closed automatically, but she didn't turn back. The tree was as if it hypnotized Haruka to a serene state.
"I never knew that Canada has cherry blossoms too." Haruka smiled.
"Well now you know!" a female voice replied. It was more like a soft echo. Haruka stopped walking and looked around.
"Who's there?" she asked, panicked.
"Right here!" the voice returned.
"Where?"
"What? Haven't you talked to a tree before?"
Haruka's eyes widened. "You're...talking to me?"
"Why yes!"
"But...trees can't talk! They're just plants!"
"Sweetie, I'm not like any other plants on earth."
"Not like any other plants?"
"Yes! You see, I'm a magical sakura tree!"

Magical? Haruka was still surprised that she was talking to a tree. She had read countless Enid Blyton books that led her to high imagination, but she never knew that magic actually existed in real life.

"Where did you come from?" Haruka asked.
"I come from the heart of a special girl." the tree replied.
Haruka's eyebrows raised, "What do you mean by the heart of a special girl?"
The tree suddenly let out a brilliant pink glow that was as strong as the Sun. A ribbon of its petals was released and surrounded around Haruka. Haruka held her breath as the beautiful magic spun around her like wind.
"I was born from a girl who loves cherry blossoms and she expresses her heart by painting them." the tree hinted.
"That sounds like me!"
"When one of my petals led that girl here, I knew that she's the one."
"That happened to me! Wait...are you talking about me?" Haruka exclaimed.
"What do you think, sweetie?"

Haruka tapped her chin while thinking. The ring of petals kept swirling round her. Suddenly, her eyes flashed to a vision where she saw the same cherry blossom tree in a snowy white background. When the vision disappeared, she stared at the tree in front of her with wide eyes.
"I'm the special girl?" she gasped.
"That's right."
"But how? I don't have any magic powers or anything."
"Magic does exist, Haruka. Magic chooses you to create me."
"How do you even know my name?"
"I've known your name even since I was born."

Haruka still couldn't believe her eyes. The tree noticed her face and cast wind that hit gently against her face, hopefully to calm her.
"I still don't understand." Haruka stammered.
"You don't have to understand. You just have to believe."
Aside from talking to a magic tree, Haruka couldn't take her eyes away from the petals. She had never seen a cherry blossom tree in full bloom in such a freezing weather. The petals seemed to be coated by a soft pink glow, a delicate kind of magic that shortly opened her eyes and heart to trust the tree.

"I think I believe." Haruka replied.
"Why that's great!"
"This is just incredible! I've never seen anything like this in my whole life!"
"You only see me in visions, right?"
"Oh yeah! I first got a vision of you the night before my flight from Tokyo, and then I got a second vision before I arrive here."
"That means my calling to you is working. I'm glad that you've got my message."
"So why are you calling me?"
"Why I just want to see you. Now that you're finally here, I have so much to tell you, Haruka."
"It's like I'm making a new friend."
"We are friends now, right?"
"Of course! I guess moving here is not so bad after all!" Haruka smiled. Her heart felt lifted, "Hey do you even have a name?"
"Well I've never thought of that!"
"I'll just call you Sakura then!"
"That's kind of a common name because I am a Sakura tree after all."
"Hmm..." Haruka tapped her chin, "How about Tsubomi?"
"What does that mean?"
"It means bloom in Japanese."
"Ah! I like it! Very well, then! Call me Tsubomi!"
"Alright!"

Haruka realized that her feet felt heavy after all the running from home, so she sat under Tsubomi with her legs crossed. Her butt was cold on the snow but she didn't care.

"So what kind of magic do you have, Tsubomi?"
"Well, as you can see, my flowers are still alive even though it's winter."
"So you're just a tree who stays alive all the time?"
"Not necessarily. I also can perform defense and healing magic."
"Defense? I've never heard of that word. What does that mean?"
"It means protection. I can cast shields to protect myself or someone."
"Cool! So you've defend against bad guys before?"
"No, I've not been in a battle before."
"Oh really?"
"Well, yeah. I'm just wearing a shield right now."
"You are?"
Haruka reached out to touch Tsubomi's trunk. Its firm wood body was warm.
"My flowers are alive because of my shield."
"Oh! That makes sense!"

Haruka talked to Tsubomi for over an hour. It feels like talking to her best friend Michiro once again. She blabbered about Michiro who pulled her away from a cliff when she was about to fall, her first attempt of using acrylic paint, her first art award for a painting of Meguro River where cherry blossoms bloom, and her messy attempt of making Sakura mochi with Michiro when they eight years old. Haruka couldn't stop laughing when she finished talking about mochi flour covered all over their faces when suddenly she heard a familiar voice, "Haruka! Haruka, are you there?"
"Dad?" she gasped. She immediately jumped on her feet. Her eyes fixed at the secret entrance.
"Don't worry, nobody will find us here."
"How can you tell? My dad is smart! He's like the winner of hide and seek!"
"My magic can trick people from finding the entrance to this area of the neighbourhood. You go ahead and find your father, I'll make sure that he won't find you coming out from here."
"Does that mean I have to keep you a secret?"
"It's best if you don't tell about me to anyone. I'll tell you more when you come back here."
"I'll definitely come back! I promise!"
"It's great to finally meet you, Haruka."
"You too, Tusbomi." Haruka smiled, and ran off to the entrance where the snow-buried wall made way for her to go through.

Haruka tiptoed her way off the park and spotted her dad who was pacing nervously around the set of swings.
"Dad!" Haruka called out.
"Haruka! Sweetheart! Gosh where have you been?"
"I'm just wandering around here."
"You'll get lost, really! Anyway, I'm glad you're okay." Harold gave his daughter a hug and walked her home. Haruka stole a glance at the park and a smile crept on her face.

It's Okay to Change Music Taste? Super Junior Shoots The Arrow!

People change and changes shape personalities and plans for the future. It happens to me because I started having Korean friends since last year back in Douglas College and they (well particularly one of them) have influenced me to start looking up to K-Pop. I wasn't much of a K-Pop fan when I was a teenager; the only songs I knew were Sorry Sorry, Run Devil Run, Oh!, and Hoot. But then three months ago, I found myself watching a big number of Super Junior music videos and appearances in Korean variety shows. And that's how I become a new big fan of Super Junior. I take this as a guilty pleasure from my younger sisters who are longtime fans of K-Pop, K-dramas, and Korean reality shows. They're surprised to see me playing Super Junior songs on repeat whenever I do chores around the house. What? Is there something wrong with change in music taste? I'm still a little embarrassed to show them my new music obsession and I sometimes eavesdrop at their excited conversation on Korean stars and all that because I'm familiar with some of them from variety shows with Super Junior as special guests or MCs.

Anyway, now that I'm kind of familiar with the members of Super Junior as well as their activities and personalities, I'm disappointed to see that this K-Pop group looks underrated. Bigger K-Pop groups like EXO, Infinite, Big Bang and many others are taking over and Super Junior seems to be one of those artists that got less views on Youtube than other K-Pop entertainers. I don't know why this happens. Super Junior, to me, is supposed to be on top notch because they're just a group of men who are kids at heart, undeniable humour, ridiculous cosplays, awesome talents, different natural personalities, and pretty much everything that makes a K-Pop group so likable. I'll probably write a super long one so I'm just gonna shorten into points about why Super Junior has shoot the arrow...to my heart. XD Okay, that's cheesy...

1. Super Junior's music drags me into a whole new genre.
Believe it or not. I used to replay Sorry Sorry and Super Girl (Super Junior M-Chinese version) on my first phone. And then I delete both songs due to space storage and my endless cravings of new American Pop and Rock songs. And I didn't expect to listen to Sorry Sorry once again three months ago this year. The music video with 57 millions views then got me watching other music videos from Super Junior and one of the members caught my eye. Kyuhyun, the maknae (youngest) of the group is just super cute, handsome, and attractive all in one package. It turns out that he has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard in a K-Pop group. No one can ever pull gorgeous vocal chords off like Kyuhyun, well in my ears XD.

As I dig in to more Super Junior songs, I found that some of their songs have catchy, upbeat tempo that is perfect for dancing or having a good time while some songs have melancholic, bittersweet rhythm that makes me feel like a part of a sad love story. I downloaded my top favourite Super Junior songs bit by bit on my smartphone and a long list of their songs became my every day playlist. Literally. Even though I got a little tired of listening to them every day, I still can't get Super Junior fever out of my system. XD That's when browsing new Super Junior songs (even from subunits Super Junior M, Super Junior D&E (Donghae & Eunhyuk), Super Junior KRY (Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung), Super Junior T (Trot), and Super Junior H (Happy)) comes in for a fresh new update in my playlist. Speaking of new, I'm really excited for their 10th anniversary album to come out someday this month (July 2015!!!!). They're making a comeback, ELFs!

Devil Music Video:
One of the best music videos ever!!!! The quality is amazing and the video itself is like a movie! The hip thrust craze from the U video has returned in this video and I love it! And again, the members are so into their roles!

These guys are so grateful for their success on the Devil album and MV (10 million views on Youtube plus Teen Choice Award for best international artists and fandom) that they've released a repackaged album called Magic. Their new MV is awesome as usual! I absolutely love how catchy but laid back the tune of the song is, plus the computer graphics used as effects in the video is just entertaining and on point. And can we just agree on how super attractive Super Junior look in this four minutes of awesomeness? Especially Leeteuk, oh my gosh, he killed me when I first saw his messy hairdo and red blazer over his black top. Damn he looks so good in red! One thing I think Super Junior deserves more recognition is their desire to have fun and being silly. Super Junior never fails to make me smile and laugh and scream with...well just everything they do with each other and in front of the camera. For example, their basketball moves together with the special effects is just so fun to watch. And of course I died when Siwon blocked Yesung's shot and Eunhyuk kicked Yesung in the face. XD

My favourite album is their 7th one called This Is Love, and my favourite song of all is, of course, "This is Love".
Reason? Both the song and the music video is by far the best Super Junior has ever made! The instrumental in the song is just so addicting that it's something different from the music I usually listen to. I can never get tired of listening to this song, really! Even though I can't understand Korean, the lyrics seem to flow so well in this song like the members are telling a love story everyone can relate to and are encouraged that their true love is near.

Another song that I can never get tired of is Evanasce. This song has more of a emotional, heartbreaking kind of melody. Each Super Junior member just knows how to sing their lines with feeling and this is truly a great example of an R&B song. It's not like any other sensual/sexual/cheesy song about breakups.

Overall, Super Junior is lucky enough to have this melting pot of voices that blend uniquely together into one harmony, with or without individual lines. Together with catchy tunes, their music suits well with a person's mood and expresses their love and hard work and passion to ELFs. Guaranteed.

2, New celebrity crush, but every one in Super Junior is handsome. XD
Kyuhyun

Listening to Kyuhyun's voice is like indulging in a peaceful scenery during a vacation. And as I checked out his appearances in Korean variety shows, he's like the prankster/ "class clown" of the group, or "EvilKyu" for short. He likes to tease and bully his fellow members but it's just for fun and laughs from the audience which lightens up the mood of a show. Speaking of "EvilKyu", he has the most nicknames which is pretty cool. He's also known as "GameKyu" because he's addicted to video games like Starcraft, "CuteKyu"because well he's super adorable especially with his big dark eyes when talking selfies, and "PrinceKyu" because he once dresses like a prince in a game show and he shoots an arrow straight at the full point target of an archery circle (I think).

I just love listening to his solo album and my favourite is definitely "At Gwanghwamun". This is a raw, beautiful ballad that tells a heartbroken person to learn to eventually move on. I just love hearing his pure voice in a melancholic song. It really tugs my heartstrings when I first hear it. If you haven't listened to his album, I recommend you to check it out because his voice will definitely lure you to the beauty of autumn that symbolizes the ups and downs of love.

Check out the behind the scenes of his music video right here:

He can even pull off a different music genre such as rock, like this cover below for a singing contest show.

He may be serious at work (especially when it comes to music business), but he also can be mischievous and witty. He has been active as a guest and host in variety shows; he's been a delight in front of an audience's eyes with his straightforward, sharp words plus his adorable, silly actions. There are tons of videos of him being humorous and snarky, and I just can't stop laughing while watching Kyuhyun showing his crazy side.
Being the youngest in a group can sometimes be a pain in the butt. As a matter of fact, he joined Super Junior six months after debut back in 2005. In the early years, he had suffered a lot but had gained support and strength from his fellow members.

He may be mean, but he's also being honest and practically just pulling other people's legs. But still we ELFs love him anyways. :)

And last but not least, his clumsiness+dorkiness is a treat to his fans (and I swear the bloopers are just so much better than a script XD).

He showed more of his dorky side in this mini series called "Fluttering India" and I just can't handle his cuteness!

Kyuhyun trying to speak English was Oh-My-Gosh-I-Can't-Bear-It! XD

The India vacation won't be complete with Kyuhyun's free mini concert....in a cab!
And one unforgettable moment would be the other four "maknae"s celebrating Kyuhyun's birthday.
Okay, one more clip of Kyuhyun's cuteness :P.

The clip below is my ultimate favourite Kyuhyun moment! This was when he was the host of a show for mothers called Mamma Mia and he was challenged to finish a watermelon slice with his co-host. It was just hilarious! Check it out!

Donghae
Dang I could go on forever with Kyuhyun videos but I should continue with other members eh? Donghae is my second favourite. He is pretty much every girl's ideal kind of guy.

His good-looking demeanor will definitely eat your heart out. XD

The music videos below are some of his latest featuring his partner Eunhyuk. Donghae and Eunhyuk are the first duo group in Super Junior to release a duo album. "Growing Pains" and "Still You" are my two favourite songs from this sub-unit. Donghae's sweet voice and Eunhyuk's tight rap blend perfectly together in their mix of fast-paced dance songs and uplifting love songs.

"Growing Pains" is about, of course, breakups and dealing with the heartbreaks by attempting to erase the memories. Donghae is more like a sensitive, soft-hearted person so, spoiler alert, his tears will kill you in the guts because seriously, you'll wanna give him a hug.

"Still You" is a chilling song and the music video shows a tight bond between the two buddies.

They may look super close, but they argue a lot. And seriously their quarrels will turn into something you'll find adorable and goofy.
Like this one:

And this:

Siwon
Okay, I have a friend who is a big fan of Siwon and I think she'll go nuts when I post this picture of him. I can imagine her squealing like a chipmunk right now :P.

Siwon is ranked as the most handsome/good-looking member in Super Junior (well according to votes from fans). He was the first singer in most Super Junior music videos mainly because of his good looks. But not only he's a heartthrob, he's also a skilled actor in many Korean and Chinese dramas. Now I swear I'll watch one of his dramas someday because I'm hoping to squeeze in a day when I start watching a K-drama. I hope...XD
Oh wait, this is not a K-drama but it's a reality show called We Got Married and a lot of girls are probably jealous of Siwon and his on-screen love Liu Wen @ first Asian model on Victoria Secret.

Sungmin
Okay, moving on! Sungmin (also known as CuteMin back then), was the adorable member with a flexible body and hidden martial art skills.
But he's famous for being super adorable...and wearing the colour pink but that's the old days! Now's he's a married man with manliness. :)
Before..

After:

But he'll always be the adorable one. :3

Kangin
Kangin seems to be a Super Junior member who is not as popular as the rest but he's actually good-looking. He's in a mini series called "A Celebrity Living In My House" and I can totally see that he wants to become a father someday. He's really good in taking care of children and he felt like a part of his on-screen family even though he only lived in the house for three days. He may looked tough on the exterior, but he's soft and sensitive on the inside. Oh! And he's a good cook too! I've watched him cooking in a few old videos and man he'll definitely make a good husband!

Look at how sweet he was to the son of his host family of the show "Celebrity Living In My House"!

You can watch all three episodes of "A Celebrity Living In My House" with Kangin here:
Ep 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73LyCnigPJo
Ep 2:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a7vrBkuMgc
Ep 3:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odgyal0DfK0

Kangin, you're awesome! You have a whole lot more personality to show to the world! I know you can do it! Fighting!

Eunhyuk
Eunhyuk @ "Dancing Machine" has lured a lot of girls with his sexy moves. Trust me, you wouldn't want to miss this.

He may be super charming, but he's also a target for his fellow Super Junior members to tease at. His nickname is "anchovy" and I think it's mean but hilarious at the same time.
Go to 4:26 in this clip to see the  proof. XD

Check out the two episode of "A Song For You" with Super Junior here!:
Ep 14: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG-o3JQmOTw
Ep 15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzj3ydN5dtc

Eunhyuk, keep fire us up with your dance moves!

Leeteuk
Super Junior won't be complete without their selfless, caring leader Leeteuk. Rumour said that he looked scary, but he's actually a very cheerful, optimistic person. He's been the host of Korean variety shows and he's known for his energetic spirit. He's like the magnet that keeps Super Junior together and he always reminds them that the different talents they show aside from singing and dancing in music videos and concerts are not only for themselves but for the group. He also has this nickname called "Angel Leader" because he cares so much for the members who are like brothers to him.

Skip to 4:28 to see how his older sister describe Leeteuk!

He definitely knows how to lead an activity besides saying the Super Junior catchphrase.
And not to mention the love and support he receives back from his members before he face a difficult challenge.

Leeteuk, you're a great example on how to keep a team together for many years! Seriously, you're a legend!

Yesung
This guy not only has a pure emotional voice but also has an interesting personality. He's a serious type of person, but sometimes his facial expressions and his acts make us laugh so hard. Here's one of them. Skip to 1:58 to see his priceless face!
And this

And check out how he sounds like when "Sorry Sorry" and "Bonomana" turns into emotional (skip to 7:50).

Yesung, keep being awkwardly awesome!

Ryeowook
Ryeowook is also one of the youngest in the group. He has a special, high-pitch voice that he can even sing high notes smoothly. He'll probably be the winner in high note battle with the other members. Even though he's the shortest in the group, he can be attractive to some girls with his sweet personality.
He is also a good cook, as a matter of fact. He is not only like a brother, but also like a mother/aunt because he never fails to satisfy them with food.

Plus if Ryeowook's, Yesung's, and Kyuhyun's vocals are combined together, Super Junior K-R.Y will melt your heart with their beautiful Japanese songs. Like this one:

Shindong

Once you look at his face, you'll know that he's a funny guy. Shindong has the skill and heart of being an entertainer, he makes people laugh with jokes and even with silly acts like this one. Skip to 0:30 to see him balancing objects with just one finger! And skip to 3:45 to see Shindong with his "electrifying eyes". XD

Check out the full episode of "The Ultimate Group" here:
Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHuVV6aXQ-w
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lah60J8ghTY

Shindong is also a good dancer. Aside from his big stature, he has some pretty impressive moves compared to dancing king Eunhyuk.
He definitely has the courage and passion to show off to the world that people of all sizes can have amazing talents, especially dancing.

Even the Super Junior members are blessed to have Shindong because he is just a unique person with a big heart.
You go, Shindong!

Heechul

Heechul is also a very interesting member of Super Junior. Why? Because he likes women fashion and I've seen him wearing women hats in variety shows like the one above.

Apparently people say that he looks like a girl, but the way he dresses is just  a part of him. And I love that he's being himself and not caring about other people's criticism. Celebrities work hard for clean, respected image, but Heechul goes with the flow and that's what makes him special.
I sometimes wonder what inspires him to wear flower pants, shawls, and all those glamourous outfits? Maybe he finds them comfortable.

He also has a sharp tongue like Kyuhyun.
Even though he's weird, the members (and the fans) still love him the way he is. :)

Heechul, really, Super Junior won't be complete without you! You prove them men can wear women's fashion too. Feminist's honour!

Hangeng
Since Super Junior is not only active in Korea but in China and pretty much all over Asia, Hangeng/ Hankyung was once included in the group. I think he quit years ago, I'm not sure what's the reason though. Hangeng is from China and he learnt Korean throughout the years with the help of Super Junior.

As far as I know, he was also once the leader of sub-unit Super Junior M (Mandarin). He was that dorky guy with glasses in Super Girl music video, and he also appeared with the group in Chinese/Taiwanese variety shows.

It's a pity that he;s no longer in Super Junior. And clearly the members miss him.

They somehow have this empty feeling when some of their members were not there, especially when some of them enlisted in the army for two years. One day, I would like to see all thirteen Super Junior members have a reunion track or music video or something. That'll be amazing.

To rewind back in the old days, Hangeng and Heechul were roommates. I don't know if it's just me but they seemed to get along really well. I had roommate issues back when I first enter college so I have no clue how the Super Junior members compromise with each other's routines and habits. They're just look so flexible and comfortable living together. Seriously, SuJu, I respect you!
Anyway, Hangeng, no matter what you do right now, you'll still a part of Super Junior. Because I've seen you in the old Super Junior videos and you looked really happy when you're with the group. Hopefully ELFs will see you again on screen!

Kibum

Kibum was once in Super Junior, but dropped out in the year 2010. He was also one of the youngest. At first, he never knew that he would be selected to be a part of the K-Pop group. According to this video clip from an episode of a Korean talk show called Happy Camp, he was randomly picked by one of the SM staff because he had headphones on. Go to 4:22 to check out the interview!

People said he doesn't have much of a musical talent, but to me he's actually a pretty good singer. One of my favourite with Kibum's appearance is the music video "It's You" and he sang that last high chord at the near end of the bridge pretty well.
Kibum's more of an actor. He played the protagonist in Super Junior's first movie "Attack of the Pin-Up Boys" and boy was he good! XD
Go to 0:44 to see his appearance in the movie!

By the way, you can check out the full movie right here. It's basically about a student who solves the mystery of a crime (throwing poop at star students' faces), and it's just a hilarious film even though it's made years ago.

Anyway, I wonder what he's up to now. He's still a part of Super Junior though, I'm sure he'll be back.

Henry

Super Junior M's youngest member is definitely a cutie pie, a multi-talented gem, and an ideal husband. Henry Lau has lived in Korea for a good number of years now but he also travels to his hometown in Toronto, Canada for filming as well as other parts of Asia for concerts and activities with Super Junior M. He was first identified as a not-so-popular celebrity aside from being in the music business with the group. But after attending Korean variety shows such as Happy Together, Hello Counselor, Weekly Idol, and Running Man, his name has spread to fame like wildfire. He has wowed people with his fantastic violin and piano performances, his never-before-seen cooking skills including his frying pan flipping and Cantonese style frying+fire bursting, his eye-catching interior design skills, and his recognition of speaking six to seven languages. I mean, seriously, this guy has a damn number of talents!

He has also been in a few music videos with his solo songs like Fantastic, Trap, and 1-4-3. Fantastic is by far my favourite because of the violin instrumental especially in the intro.

Michael Jackson (violin version) anybody?
But he can also be dorky and ridiculously adorable.

Henry had a strong brother bond with Kyuhyun and I love seeing these two "maknaes" care and argue with each other!
Henry's cooking is also a winner, he even was a contestant in Masterchef Korea! His cooking in front of the camera has both ups and downs, but girls are still impressed with his methods.

You don't have to be so perfect Henry XD.

I absolutely love Henry's appearance in Strong Heart, especially when he mentioned the Korean pick-up lines Shindong and Eunhyuk had taught him since he's a foreigner XD!

Now you see why Henry is lucky enough to be in Super Junior M! You go, Henry!

Zhoumi

And last but not least, Zhoumi who is the tallest among Super Junior M has swoon girls off their feet with his charming smile and pure voice. Not only he takes part in Super Junior M stuff, but he also has released his own album and was once involved in his very first music video called "Rewind" which was one of my favourites (as shown above).

Zhoumi is from Taiwan, so he's usually the one who answers interviewers' questions in Chinese. I think he's like the next leader who replaces Hangeng after he left the group.

And speaking of being the tallest, Zhoumi has freaking long legs! 0.0

Zhoumi may looked like a sexy, fine gentleman, but he can also be super adorable. Gosh why everyone in Super Junior is adorable! You can not hate them right? XD

Zhoumi, SM is lucky enough to have you in the K-Pop sensation. In fact, I wonder if Henry and Zhoumi can be added into the actual Super Junior group. That'll be even more epic! And more diverse in terms of personalities!

3. Interesting concepts in music videos+ Cool choreography with a hint of charm that makes their fans swoon.
As I've mentioned before, "This Is Love" music video is by far the best. According to the behind-the-scenes, Shindong and Eunhyuk were the ones who directed the video. The music video was set in a room with red, black, and grey/white walls with expensive-looking furniture. I love the one-take technique. Not many people can pull it off because the producers have to hold and move the camera the whole time while shooting, even with the zooming in and out. The wardrobe for this video was pretty classy. The members had definitely matured into sophisticated men even though they can still be silly and humorous. The quality was crystal clear and I love the switch from black and white to colours in just a poof of smoke when Kyuhyun finished singing the bridge of the song. The way they use microphones as props was just genius and the dance was pretty classy too. Everything sophisticated in this video was just amazing and that moment when Donghae and Eunhyuk had a dynamic duo routine in the middle of the video made me yell "YES!". XD

Another music video that has an interesting concept and eye-catching choreography is "Evanesce". Again, Shindong and Eunhyuk showed off their directing skills by using the same setting for "This Is Love" to shoot the music video. This time, they added roses, twigs, branches, and dead leaves to represent a dark, upsetting mood because the song told an emotional story about heartbreaks. And instead of a whole group showing up together, each member represented one main character who went through a routine of releasing his emotions from disappointment to angry to sad to lost (Kyuhyun to Shindong- disappointed/ emotionless or stoned face, Donghae to Leeteuk, angry and sad, Ryeowook to Donghae, spotted his girl and danced till he was back to present, realizing that the girl won't come back). Even their actions were transferred from member to member to continue on with the routine. That was just impressive! And Donghae crying at the end? That'll break a girl's heart for real!

"No Other" music video is also a Super Junior music video I love to watch. Even though Kyuhyun was not involved in the choreography parts of the video, the compassion each member poured out was as huge as the love they received from their fans. In this video, the concept was each member prepared something special for their loved ones. Not only it presented the sweetness and commitment each member would give to their darlings, but they also showed their charm and ways or expressing their love.

Finally, another music video that showed a total different side of Super Junior but proved that they had amazing acting skills was "Mamacita". The music video had both choreography and drama; it was like a movie teaser. I think what makes the music video phenomenal was the roles each member play as and the story caused first time viewers to glue their butts on the edge of their seats as they watched to see what happened next. Since the music video didn't show the full story, SM entertainment was smart enough to release the drama version of the music video (the second clip above). I was surprised to see the rising action of the story, that was when Kyuhyun the gambler revealed himself as Siwon's sheriff partner after handling the stolen crown to Siwon. My jaw literally dropped. XD I think the choreography should be the next Gangnam Style. That's just me but the dance was definitely unique especially with the head banging. And the costumes for each role were just on point. The members were really into their characters!

4. Their concerts/ live performances are just phenomenal!

I swear, if I get to go to a real Super Junior concert, I would die! As far as I know, they've put a lot of effort in their concerts ever since the beginning. Their intros were recordings of themselves dressing up and acting in different roles like super spies and heroes. For example, Donghae and Eunhyuk save the world from corruption by fighting against their enemies to protect a treasure chest. This VCR was shown on screen before they appear on stage! Cool, isn't it???

As for this VCR, Super Show 6 (Super Junior's sixth tour) revealed the group as spies who were to find the missing pieces of a mysterious box!
Plus if you have the chance to watch the DVD of their concerts, they've used a lot of cheers, games, and equipment to reach out to their fans all over Asia, Europe, and South America. Hopefully they'll come to North America someday and do something like this!

5. Cosplay? Aegyo? Humour? Who could not love those???

Ahem. Yeap. That's right. Super Junior concerts are famous for cosplay, especially when Disney's Frozen broke the ice as Super Junior brought a special treat to their fans in Asia like this one (Frozen):
Or this:
Or this (Marvel):
Or even this (Beyonce's Single Ladies):

Okay, that's enough rolling out of your bed. XD

Aegyo is another thing ELFs would die to see. It's basically people who act cute. Well a little...too cute.
Like when the members are told to do "Gwiyomi", a set of six gestures using fingers. You'll understand when you watch the videos below:

Speaking of aegyo...

But the best of all, Super Junior has those times when they can just relieve stress by making fun of each other or making us laugh.

The members like to tease and play around with each other.

Hidden cameras are a pretty big thing as Super Junior likes to prank Eunhyuk (especially) and other members.

Oh! I love this episode of Intimate Note! The members really had fun expressing their feelings toward each other even though their words may hurt XP.

Full episode here (part 1 out of 11, you can check out the rest of the parts on Youtube):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab6qfpc2H3I

And yes, they do fight over small matters, but they still forgive each other in the end.

Derp faces are also a pretty common thing among Super Junior members! Like Siwon's!

6. Each personality shine through like real human beings.
Super Junior sure knows how to make us laugh with their imitation or explanation about one another's unique ways!

Plus we can't take our eyes off their adorableness.

And they don't mind sharing their personal lives with their fans all over the globe even with little gags and inspiring values of family and friendship.

7. Support from Super Junior fan club(ELF) is just out of this world, I can guarantee!
There are some fans who memorize every single lyrics of their songs that they managed to reach out to the group in a concert! Check this out!
Warning: you better get tissues ready. :P
Super Junior concerts also have this tradition of holding blue balloons or blue lights so that their audience could create a sapphire-lit sky or ocean. This is definitely one of the most beautiful things Super Junior is blessed to have.

Super Junior also never fails to reach back to their fans:

And what touches me and probably to Super Junior is that the ELFs encourage one another to keep watching Super Junior videos til reach a certain number like from a million views to two million views. They even hope to get an old music video to reach a higher number of views so that Super Junior can know that the ELFs are still supporting them. It seems like the ELFs are struggling as much as Super Junior because they know that Super Junior is replaced by bigger K-Pop stars but they're standing strong for 10 whole years (which is pretty amazing for a music group that they should deserve a Guinness World Record), so the fans kept watching and liking and sharing Super Junior videos so that Super Junior can get more recognition. Super Junior and ELFs also wish that each of us stay healthy (especially get enough rest even though we' work hard with our school or work). We may be busy with our personal lives but we support each other and we entertain ourselves with Super Junior music and humour. That what makes Super Junior so special. And now that the group is making a comeback, we're super excited for new music and new laughs from these handsome, hilarious dorks. Hey, being a dork is awesome right? They're just being themselves without a care for the world! :D

There's still a whole lot more videos I have not discovered, especially on Youtube. But eventually they'll pop up on my playlist someday.
P.S I do not own any of the videos posted here. Credits goes to SM entertainment and the owners of the videos!

Sigh....Super Junior...Why you have to be so awesome??? I don't know if I'm gonna post more of this new obsession of mine but I'll still gonna continue support this K-Pop group because they're just so down-to-earth with outstanding characteristics and I can tell that they really love their fans very much just by looking at their smiles and moments. Super Junior, if you're reading this, I know that you guys are extremely busy with your schedules and you have much more talent to show to the world, but I hope you know that we ELFs are always there to support you all the way and we look forward to your upcoming new music, unforgettable moments, and unconditional love. <3 Fighting! Saranghaeyo!
